
TIOGA CENTER - Newark Valley won the first set, but Tioga rallied for a 3-1 win here Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the Section IV, Class C volleyball playoffs.
With the win, Tioga, now 9-7, advances to semi-final pool play for the 18th straight season the playoffs have been held. (There was no postseason in 2020 due to COVID.)
Tioga will be joined by S-VE, and Walton Thursday night at top-seeded Trumansburg for the semifinals.
The fifth-seeded Cardinals won the first set 25-23, but the fourth-seeded Tigers bounced back with wins of 25-23, 26-24, and 25-21.
Senior Megan Vance led Tioga with 10 service points, six kills, and 16 digs, while sophomore RaeAnne Feeko had nine points, including a pair of aces, 16 setter assists, and 15 digs, and senior Lily Mesler had eight points, two kills, six assists, and five digs.
Lilly Mezzatesta hd seven points, and three kills in the win, while senior Layni Whitmore had four points seven kills, one block, and three digs, sophomore Audi Zorn had three points, five kills, and two blocks, and junior Kali Bailey had two points, and seven digs.
Vanessa Tunnicliff had two kills, two assists, and two digs for the Tigers, while Jade Keaty had nine digs, and one service aces, senior Joslyn Maciak had two kills, and a team-high 31 digs, and sophomore Kendra Noe recorded five digs.
Cha Gardner led Newark Vally with 23 kills, six blocks, and 17 digs, while Laura Ludwig had four aces, six kills, and eight digs, Rosie Wandell had three aces, two kills, 26 assists, and nine digs, and Michael Medina and Matthew Kasper recorded 20 and 17 digs, respectively.
