SYRACUSE — Tioga remained atop the Class D rankins, while Waverly jumped two spots to No. 2 in the Class C rankings in the latest New York State Sportswriters Association high school football poll.
CLASS C
Ranked fourth in Class C last week, the Wolverines (10-1) jumps to second this week, behind only top-ranked Fonda-Fultonville (10-1) of Section II.
Section V champ LeRoy (11-0) is ranked third, and will square off with Section VI champ Salamanca (9-2) ranked fifth in the state quarterfinals, with the winner facing the winner of the game between Wavery and Section III champ Adirondack (10-1), which is ranked fourth.
Fonda-Fultonville will square off with Section X champ Gouverneur (8-1), which is ranked 16th, in one of the Easter Region quarterfinals, while Section I champ Bronxville (5-4 and ranked 14th) takes on James O’Neill (6-5 and ranked 20th) in the other semifinal.
Chenango Forks (6-4) is ranked 13th and Schuyler (6-4) is an honorable mention.
CLASS D
Tioga (11-0), winners of 38 in a row and two-time defending state champion, remains atop the Class D state rankings, while Section VI champ Clymer-Sherman-Panama (10-0) is ranked second, and Section II champ Stillwater (9-1), Section IX champ Burke Catholic (9-1), and Section VII champ Moriah (7-2) are ranked third through fifth, respectively.
Tioga will square off with Dolgeville (8-2 and ranked ninth) in one of the Western Regional state quarter-final games, while CSP takes on Section V champ Canisteo-Freenwood (9-2 and ranked eighth).
In the Eastern Region, Stillwater will square off with Moriah, while Burke Catholic will face Section I champ Haldane (7-2 and ranked sixth).
Delhi (9-2) is ranked 11th, and Walton (5-4) is an honorable mention.
