NTL SWIMMING: ATHENS GIRLS OPEN SEASON WITH WIN OVER TUNKHANNOCK; WILDCAT BOYS FALL (24 PHOTOS) (2023-12-06)

ATHENS - Senior Grace Cobb was a triple-winner to lead the Athens girls to a 103-70 win over Tunkhannock, while the Wildcat boys dropped a 113-70 decision to the Tigers here Wednesday afternoon in non-league swimming action.
GIRLS
Athens 103, Tunkhannock
"We have a young team that swam very well in our home opener," said longtime Athens coach Mark Keister.
Cobb led a sweep in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 2:20.55, with senior Emily Marshall finishing second in 2:24.52, and junior Elizabeth Talada third in 2:29.41.
Cobb also won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:24.18, and Emily Marshall was second in 6:29.49
Cobb teamed with Emily Marshall, junior Elizabeth Talada, and sophomore Madeline Henderson to win the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 4:48.5.
Sophomore Evelyn Panek won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.19, and sophomore Olivia Thompson was second in 29.13 seconds. Panek finished second in the 100-yard butterfly, but qualified for the District 4 Championships with a time of 1:13.95.
Sophomore Elizabeth Denlinger won the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:43.91, and Henderson was third in 3:01.91. Denlinger also placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:21.51.
Panek and Denlinger teamed with Thompson and Emily Marshall to win the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:54.87.
Thompson won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:18.39, and sophomore Kayla Marshall was third in 1:43.67.
Kayla Marshall finished third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 1:16.95, and freshman Kaitlyn Leonard was third in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:27.71.
BOYS
Tunkhannock 113, Athens 70
Junior Ethan Hicks and freshman Brayden Pettitt were double-winners to pace the Wildcats.
"Tunkhannock boys have a large and talented team," said Keister. "We have a young squad with almost half freshmen and no seniors."
Hicks won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:53.11, and also won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:22.05. Hicks qualified for Districts in both event.
Pettitt registered his first varsity win in the 200-yard IM, clocking in with a time of 2:09.34, and freshman Dominic Musick placed third in 2:30.74.
Pettitt also won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:06.84. He qualified for Districts in both events.
Junior Ronel Ankam recorded the Wildcats’ only other win, touching first in the 100-yard freestyle in a district-qualifying time of 55.42 seconds.
Junior Ryan Gorman finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.38 seconds, and junior Josh Leonard placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in a district-qualifying time of 1:05.15.
Freshman Eli Hicks finished second in the 1-meter diving with a six-dive score of 136.6 points. He also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a district-qualifying time of 1:06.86. He also qualified for districts in the 100 free.
Musick finished fourth in the 100 fly in a district-qualifying time.
