ATHENS — Athens used a 16-2 second-quarter blitz to open up a commanding lead on its way to a 46-25 win over Wyalusing here Wednesday evening in NTL Large School junior varsity boys basketball action.

James Friend and Eli Hobday scored four points apiece in the first quarter to help Athens to a 14-9 lead after the first seven minutes.

Friend scored six more points in the second quarter, while Aiden Vanderpool knocked down a 3-poiter and scored four points, and Lucas Schultz added a 3-pointer as Athens stretched its lead to 30-11 at the halftime break.

Noah Hobday scored four points in the second quarter as the Wildcats outscored the Rams, 10-8, to stretch their lead to 37-19 entering the fourth quarter.

Friend led a balanced Athens attack with 10 points, while Talon Baglini scored seven points, Eli Hobday added six points, and Noah HObday, Vanderpool, Adam Kemp, and Kamdyn Wheeler each chipped in with four points.

Athens returns to action Wednesday at home against Sayre in the opening round of the Valley Christmas Tournament.
