JOHNSON CITY - Seniors Ralph Johnson and Micah Chandler logged Waverly’s only wins, leading the boys to a fourth-place finish at the STAC Track & Field Championships, while sophomore Haley Larrabee had the best finish of the day for the Lady Wolverines.
"Both the boys and girls teams found some tremendous success across events today," said Waverly coach Dave Hogan. "We had a huge number of personal-bests and season-bests.
"We're really proud of our team performances and final standings at our first STAC Championship," added Hogan. "We think we're in a perfect spot to continue to see growth next week at the Class C Championship in Sidney."
BOYS
Corning won the team title with 94.5 points, while Ithaca was second with 77 points, Oneonta was third with 52, and Waverly tallied 49 points.
Johnson won the 100-meter dash in a time of 10.9 seconds, and Chandler was second at 11.09 seconds.
Chandler won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.52 seconds, and junior Kolsen Keathley was fourth at 23.56 seconds.
Johnson, Chandler and Keathley teamed with junior Xavier Watson teamed to finish second in the 400-meter relay in a time of 43.06 seconds.
Sophomore Troy Beeman placed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 41-feet, 4-inches, and senior Jacob Benjamin was sixth at 40-feet, 4 1/2-inches.
Benjamin placed fourth in the discus at 126-feet, 9-inches, and Beeman was ninth at 118-feet, 5-inches.
Freshman Rhylee Stotler finished ninth in the pole vault at 9-feet, and senior Braylon DeKay finished 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 12:08.2.
Junior Xavier Watson and senior Thomas Morley finished 12th and 14th, respectively, in the high jump at 5-feet, 3-inches. (Watson places higher due to fewer misses.)
Senior Liam Wright was 12th in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:53.69.
DeKay finished 15th in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:06.67, and junior Nic Mattison was 16th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:12.32.
GIRLS
Corning ran away with the team title with 123.5 points, while Ithaca was second with 56 points, and Oneonta was third with 52.5 points. Waverly was 12th with 18 points.
Sophomore Haley Larrabee placed second in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:04.41.
Larrabee teamed with seniors Haylie Davenport and Caprice Haney, and 8th-grader Kaylin Twedt to finish fourth in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:27.69.
Freshman Makenzie Olmsted, sophomore Mackenzie Chamberlain, junior Harper Minaker, and senior Liz Vaughn teamed to finish fourth in the 3,200-meter relay in a time f 10:58.41.
Haney, Twedt, Davenport, and Larrabee teamed to place eighth in the 400-meter relay.
Chamberlain finished ninth in the 3,000-meter run in a time 12:28.43, and freshman Taylor Sinsabaugh was 13th in 14:12.05.
Makenzie Olmsted was ninth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:24.33, while Haney finished ninth in the high jump at 4-feet, 6-inches, and Twedt was ninth in the 100-meter dash in 13.66 seconds.
Senior Mackenzie LaForest placed fifth in the shot put with a heave of 30-feet, 3 3/4-inches. She was 10th in the discus at 78-feet, 5-inches.
Junior Maddie Olmsted finished 14th in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:46.04, and Vaughn was 15th in 2:46.51.
