OWEGO — Maine-Endwell Summerfield jumped out to an 8-1 lead, and held off Sayre in a 10-6 decision here Sunday at the Owego 12U Baseball Tournament.
M-E scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-1 lead, then plated six runs in the second inning.
Sayre scored twice in the fourth inning, and three more times in the fifth to close the gap to 9-6.
M-E tacked on an insurance run in the home half of the fifth to make it 10-6, then retired Sayre in order in the sixth to preserve the win.
Trenton Lynch was 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple, and a double, two runs scored, and four RBI to pace Sayre’s eight-hit attack, and Colton M-Fuller doubled and singled, and scored two runs.
Lyam Morningstar singled and drove in one run for Sayre, while Emmett Lee singled and scored one run, Ryley Morningstar added a double, and Caleb Conden scored one run.
Conden struck out four, and allowed five hits in 2 2/3 innings for Sayre, and Blake Chapman struck out one and allowed four hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Sayre returns to action Monday against M-E Caldwell at 5:45 p.m.
