OWEGO — Waverly took command early, and rolled to a 12-3 win over Vestal here Tuesday night in the Owego 12U Baseball Tournament.
Waverly, which left the bases loaded in the first inning, broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second with a six-run two-out rally that featured a two-run single by Triton Floyd, RBI singles by Cooper Skovira and Brayden Bowman, and a two-run double by Levi Couse.
Vestal cut into the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth, but Waverly answered with four runs in the home half to take a 10-3 lead.
Christian Hiralez’s two-run single highlighted the rally that also featured RBI singles by Bowman and Cole Rylott.
Waverly tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning — on an RBI single by Skovira and an RBI fielder’s choice off the bat of Couse — to provide the final margin.
Bowman earned the win on the mound for Waverly, allowing three runs — all unearned — on one hit, while fanning 10 and walking four in 4 2/3 innings.
Mike Hendershot closed out the game, allowing one hit in 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. He struck out three and walked one.
Skovira was 3-for-3 with three runs scored, and two RBI, and Bowman was 3-for-3 with two runs scored, and two RBI to pace Waverly’s 14-hit attack, while Floyd singled twice, scored three runs, and two RBI, and Hiralez singled twice, scored one run, and had two RBI.
Rylott singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run in the win, while Couse doubled and had three RBI, Liam Barton added a single, and Hendershot, and Chase Lathrop each crossed the plate once.
