
SAYRE — Waverly survived a loss in pool play and beat Wellsboro in the finals of a very competitive “Battle in the Bowl II” 7-v-7 tournament here Saturday, while Sayre avenged its only loss in pool play to finish third.
Six teams finished pool play at 3-1, with only four advancing into the semifinals.
Susquehanna, Sayre, and Horseheads finished 3-1 in the Red Pool, with Schuyler County 1-3, and Thomas A. Edison 0-4.
Susquehanna beat Sayre in pool play, while Sayre beat Horseheads, and Horseheads beat Susquehanna.
Susquehanna earned the top seed based on tiebreaker criteria, while Sayre was the 2-seed.
In the Blue Pool, Wellsboro, Waverly, and Athens were 3-1, with Cowanesque Valley 1-3, and SVEC 0-4.
Athens beat Waverly, while Waverly beat Wellsboro, and Wellsboro beat Athens.
Wellsboro earned the top seed based on tiebreaker criteria, while Waverly was the 2-seed.
In the semifinals, Waverly topped Susquehanna, and Wellsboro bested Sayre.
Waverly beat Wellsboro in the finals, and Sayre topped Susquehanna.
