Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — Athens football is on the road for a big NTL Large School Division football match-up Saturday afternoon, while the Athens girls and boys soccer teams are at home in the morning.
The Wolverines Girls Swimming & Diving Invitational highlights a large slate of tournaments Saturday that includes volleyball tournaments in Corning and Williamson, and cross country invitationals in Oneonta and Corning.
FOOTBALL
Athens (1-1 overall, 0-0 NTL Large) at Canton (2-0, 0-0), 1 p.m. @ Miller A. Moyer Field: The Wildcats are coming off a 44-6 win over Northwest Area, while the Warriors topped South Williamsport, 17-8.Oddly enough, Athens and Canton have played the same two teams in the first two weeks of the season. In Week 1, South topped Athens, 26-13, and Canton rolled over Northwest, 42-6.
The quarterbacks — Canton senior Ben Fitch, and Athens sophomore Connor Davidson — will be the guys to watch in this game.
Fitch has completed 11 of 19 passes for 222 yards, three TDs, and two interceptions, and has also rushed for 164 yards and one TD on 27 carries.
Bailey Gardner has rushed for 100 yards, and three TDs on 18 carries for the Warriors, and Aydin Holcomb leads the team with four catches for 71 yards, and one TD.
Davidson has rushed for 295 yards and five TDs on 24 carries, and has completed 11 of 29 passes for 156 yards, one TD, and two interceptions.
Junior Eli Chapman has rushed for 100 yards and one TD on just 16 carries for the Wildcats.

BOYS SOCCER
Horseheads at Athens (1-3), 11 a.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 1-0 double-OT loss at Williamson Thursday, while the Blue Raiders opened the season Thursday with a 4-0 win over Union-Endicott.
Athens has lost three in a row, and has been shutout in all three games.
GIRLS SOCCER
North Penn-Mansfield at Athens (3-0), 9 a.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 2-0 win over Williamson Wednesday, while the Tigers dropped a 5-2 decision to NEB.
Athens has outscored it three foes 7-2, while NP-M has been outscored 14-2 in its three losses.
Hall of Fame Tournament
Waverly (1-1) at Shaker Heights, 12:15 p.m.: The Lady Wolverines are coming off a 3-0 loss to Central Valley Academy on Day 1 of the Hall of Fame Tournament.
VOLLEYBALL
Waverly, Tioga at Corning Tournament, 9 a.m.: Waverly and Tioga will be joined in the nine-team field by Corning, Elmira, Horseheads, NP-Liberty, Edison, S-VE, and Letchworth.
Athens, Sayre at Williamson Tournament, 9 a.m.: Much of the NTL will be on hand for the annual Williamson Tournament.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Wolverine Invitational, 9 a.m.: Also expected at the annual Wolverine Invite are Corning, Chenango Valley, Maine-Endwell, Norwich, Owego, and Notre Dame.
CROSS COUNTRY
