Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — The Athens girls and boys play in a District 4 soccer doubleheader this afternoon, while Waverly runs at the STAC Cross Country Championships.
GIRLS SOCCER
District 4, Class 3A Semifinals
4-Athens (11-7) vs. 1-Shikellamy (15-3), 2 p.m. at Loyalsock H.S.: The Wildcats snapped a five-game losing streak with a 3-1 win over Central Mountain in the regular-season finale, while the Indians dropped a 3-2 decision to Hughesville, its second loss in a row.
Last year, Athens lost to Selinsgrove in the Class 3A semifinals. The prior two years, Athens was eliminated by Shikellamy.
Athens last postseason win came in 2019 — a 2-0 win over Mifflinburg in the Class 3A semis.
BOYS SOCCER
District 4, Class 3A Semifinals
2-Athens (8-7-3) vs. 3-Shikellamy (8-8-2), 4 p.m. at Loyalsock H.S.: The Wildcats ended the regular season with a 1-1 tie against Williamson, while the Indians tied Loyalsock, 3-3.
Athens has lost in the Class 3A semis in each of the last four seasons.
The Wildcats last postseason win was a 1-0 overtime win over Jersey Shore in the Class 4A semis. They lost to Selinsgrove in the finals.
