WAVERLY — Waverly sophomore Makenzie Olmsted was recently named to the New York State Girls Soccer Class B third-team all-state team by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

Olmsted, who spent a great deal of time this season in the defensive end, finished the season with five goals and one assist.

"Makenzie’s love of the game is shown in every practice, scrimmage and game," said Waverly coach Tara Hogan. "She puts her whole heart into the sport.

"She is intrinsically motivated to be the best version of herself," noted Hogan. "You can see how much she cares.

"It’s her drive that makes her stand above and be worthy of this honor," Hogan added. "She is so fun to watch."
