NTL GIRLS BASKETBALL: TROY RACES OUT TO EARLY LEAD IN 52-27 WIN OVER ATHENS (15 PHOTOS) (2025-01-11)

TROY — Troy built a double-digit lead in the first quarter, then blew the game open in the third on its way to a 52-27 win over Athens here Saturday afternoon in NTL Large School Division girls basketball action.
The Trojans limited Athens to one field goal in the opening stanza and jumped out to a 13-3 lead.
Athens righted the ship a bit in the second quarter, and Troy added just one point to its lead with an 8-7 advantage in the stanza, taking a 21-10 lead into the intermission.
Kailyn Sterling, who had 11 points in the first half for the Trojans, scored six points in the third quarter to fuel a 17-6 run that gave the Trojans a 38-16 lead heading into the final eight minutes.
Senior Addy Wheeler led Athens with 14 points, while senior Sara Bronson added seven points, and senior Megan Morgan and freshman Alissa Vough each grabbed four rebounds.
Athens, now 7-4, returns to action Wednesday at Wyalusing, which handed Troy its first league loss in two years last week.
