STAC BOWLING: JOHNSON ROLLS ANOTHER 300; LEADS WAVERLY BOYS TO MID-SEASON TOURNEY TITLE; GIRLS FINISH SIXTH (2025-01-11)

VESTAL — Junior Derek Johnson rolled a 700 series, and his second 300 game of the season, and three of his teammates shot big 600 series to lead Waverly to a first-place finish here Saturday at the STAC Midseason Bowling Tournament at Midway Lanes.

The Lady Wolverines finished sixth in the girls tournament.

BOYS
The Wolverines rolled a three-game set of 3,270, including an 1,145 in the second game, to edge out runner-up (and defending N.Y. State Division I champion) Elmira by 3 pints. Horseheads was third at 3,187.

Johnson banged out a 739 series on games of 257, 300, and 182, while 8th-grader Colten Santalucia shot a 680 series on games of 236. 233, and 211, and Maison Apgar rolled a 669 on games of 197, 225, and 247.

Senior Dom Wood shot a 657 series for the Wolverines on games of 205, 222, and 230, and junior Tristan Campbell added a 525 series.

Johnson's series was second on the day, with M-E's Steven Smith topping the charts with a 749.

Santalucia was ninth on the day, while Apgar was 11th and Wood was 15th.

GIRLS
Serenity Conklin, Karis Hayes, and Ariel Houseknecht rolled 500 series to help Waverly to sixth place at the STAC Mid-Season Tournament.

Conklin rolled a 553, while Hayes shot a 535, including a 207 in the second game, and Houseknecht had a 512.

Rylie Witman added a 496 for the Wolverines, and Aby Apgar tacked on a 394.

Elmira won the team title with a 2,805 three-game set, while U-E was second at 2,728, M-E was third at 2,707, Corning was fourth at 2,578, and Windsor was fifth at 2,547. Waverly tallied 2,490.

Elmira's Madison Smith had the high series for the girls with a 699. Conklin's series was 14th highest on the day.

Waverly returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Windsor at the Valley Bowling Center.
