Valley Sports ReportHORSEHEADS — Horseheads won seven of eight weight classes midway through the match en route to a 46-21 win over Tioga here Tuesday night in non-league Section IV wrestling action.
Junior Logan Bellis got the Tigers off on the right foot with a 17-0 technical fall of Joel Scibek in 3:08 at 124 pounds to give Tioga a quick 5-0 lead.
Gavin Hornsby put the Blue Raiders on the board at 131 pounds with a 7-4 win over junior Brayden MacWhinnie to close the gap to 5-3.
Junior Jayden Duncanson upped Tioga's lead to 10-3 with a 20-2 technical fall of Kole Zufall in 2:30 at 138 pounds, but the Blue Raiders picked up consecutive forfeits at 145, 152, and 160 to take the lead for good, at 21-10.
A technical fall by Jaxson Burchard at 170 pounds upped the Horseheads lead to 26-10, and former Tioga wrestler Jonah Lamb edged James Howey in a 6-3 decision at 190 pounds to make it 29-10.
Senior Austin Babcock stopped the Horseheads run with a pin fall at 215 pounds to close the gap to 29-16, but the Blue Raiders scored consecutive falls at 285 pounds and 101 pounds to take a 41-16 lead.
Sophomore Declan McKee put Tioga's final points on the board with a 16-0 technical fall of Josh Knapp in 2:16 at 101 pounds.
Tanner Knapp answered for Horseheads with a technical fall at 108 pounds.
Tioga, now 2-2, returns to action Wednesday at Trumansburg.
