Valley Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER — Tioga picked up a pair of wins here Wednesday night, while Waverly edged Elmira, 28-27, in a Section IV girls wrestling tri-match.
Waverly 28, Elmira 27
Junior Elona Holmes, 8th-grader Gianna Rylott, and sophomore Abby Sickler registered falls, but 8th-grader Gianna Zieniuk's match-ending pin lifted Waverly to a 28-27 win over Elmira.
Holmes opened the match with a 76-second fall at 185 to give the Wolverines a 5-0 lead.
The Express answered with a technical fall at 235 and a forfeit at 94 pounds to take a 9-5 lead.
Rylott scored a fall in 2:46 to give Waverly a 10-9 lead, and freshman Kennadie Cochrane followed with a 12-2 technical fall of Alea Hartford in 3:24 at 107 pounds to up the Waverly advantage to 14-10.
Elmira took a 15-14 lead with a pin at 114 pounds, but Waverly answered with Sickler's 1:35 pin at 120 pounds, and sophomore Onnah Thompson scored a 3-0 decision over Cody Lundfeldt at 120 pounds to give the Wolverines a 22-15 lead.
The Express won at 132 by technical fall, and Atlantis Cherry forged a 9-1 decision over Waverly's Abi Reedy at 138 pounds, to pull them within one point, at 23-22.
Elmira took the lead with a Waverly forfeit at 152 pounds to set the stage for Zieniuk, who trailed 8-4 early in second period before reeling off 11 straight points and scoring the fall at 5:20.

Elmira won four of the first five weight classes, but Tioga answered with seven consecutive wins to pull out a 40-25 decision.
The Express registered falls at 235 pounds and 114 pounds, and picked up forfeits at 94 and 100 pounds.
Sandwiched in between, junior Mia Hall scored a fall in 2:21 at 107 pounds.
Trailing 20-5, the Tigers took control.
Eighth-grader Grace Howey scored a fall in 3:58 at 120 pounds, and junior RaeAnne Feeko added a fall at 2:40 at 126 pounds to close the gap to 20-15.
After a forfeit to senior Kali Bailey at 132 pounds tied the match, sophomore Marcy Moniz scored a second-period fall to give Tioga the lead for good at 25-20.
Forfeits to freshmen Cora Szymanski (145 pounds) and Kyah Nelson (165) were sandwiched around sophomore Amelia Toomey's 53-second fall at 152 pounds. Tioga led 40-20.
Elmira received a forfeit at 185 pounds to end the match.
Tioga 40, Waverly 20
Tioga won seven of the final eight weight classes to rally for a 40-20 win over Waverly in the final match of the night.
Rylott picked up a forfeit at 100 pounds, and Cochrane scored a 52-second fall at 107 pounds to give the Wolverines a quick 10-0 lead.
Junior Alyson Chamberlain put Tioga on the board with a second-period fall at 114 pounds, but Thompson answered for the Wolverines at 120 pounds with a first-period fall to make it 15-5.
Pins by Bailey, in 35 seconds at 126 pounds, and Moniz, in 2:19 at 138 pounds, sandwiched around a forfeit to Feeko at 132 pounds put Tioga ahead 20-15.
Forfeits to Szymański at 145 and Toomey at 152 extended the lead to 30-15.
Waverly picked up its final points of the night on a forfeit to Zieniuk at 165 pounds.
Nelson scored a fall in 42 seconds at 185 pounds, and junior Lilly Mezzatesta registered a 48-second fall to end the night's action.
