CANTON — Athens shook off a slow start, and used a strong middle two quarters in a 47-33 win over Canton here Tuesday night in NTL girls basketball action.
The Warriors led 10-6 after the first quarter, but sophomore McKenna Jarvis sparked the comeback with six points, including a 3-pointer, and senior Emma Bronson canned a 3-pointer in an 11-3 run that gave the Wildcats a 17-13 lead at the half.
Bronson scored six points in the third quarter, while Jarvis scored five points, including a 3-pointer, senior Addy Wheeler scored four points, and freshman Allie Kemp drained a 3-pointer to fuel an 18-7 run that made it 35-20 heading into the final eight minutes.
Jarvis was 4-for-4 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, and scored nine points to help the Wildcats lock down the win.
Jarvis led Athens with 21 points and three rebounds, while Bronson scored 12 points, Wheeler added five points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals, Kemp chipped in with five points, and freshman Alissa Vough grabbed four rebounds.
Kendall Kitchen and Cailyn VanNoy scored 12 points apiece to lead Canton.
Athens, now 9-5, hosts Northeast Bradford Thursday.
