ATHENS — Athens jumped out to an early double-digit lead, and cruised to a 56-26 win over Wellsboro here Saturday afternoon in NTL Large School Division girls basketball action.
Sophomore McKenna Jarvis scored seven points, including an old-fashion three-point play, in the first quarter, and senior Sara Bronson canned a 3-pointer and scored points as the Wildcats built an early 14-4 lead.
Senior Addy Wheeler scored seven points to spark at 17-7 second-quarter run as Athens extended its lead to 32-11 at the half.
Athens outscored Wellsboro, 8-6, in the third quarter, and led 39-17 entering the final eight minutes.
Wheeler scored nine points in the fourth quarter, and freshman Alissa Vough added four points as the Wildcats closed the game with a 17-9 run.
Wheeler led Athens with 20 points, three rebounds, three assists, and nine steals, and Jarvis posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, to to along with three assists and three steals.
Bronson had eight points, five rebounds, five assists, and two blocked shots in the win, while Vough added a career-high 10 points, and freshman Allie Kemp chipped in with a 3-pointer.
Athens, now 13-6, returns to action Tuesday when it hosts North Penn-Mansfield.
