SECTION IV INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: FIVE RUNNERS, THREE RELAYS REACH PODIUM FOR WAVERLY AT CLASS SECTIONALS (2025-02-09)

ITHACA — Waverly had five individuals, led by junior Mackenzie Chamberlain, and three relays reach the podium here Saturday at the Section IV, Class C / D Indoor Track & Field Championships at Cornell University.

"The meet went very well yesterday," said Waverly coach Kaylee Uhl. "These kids have worked extremely hard all season and their hard work and dedication has been proven meet after meet with high-level performances as well as PRs from many of the athletes.

"This was our first meet of the postseason and a number of them have qualified to move onto the state qualifier meet," added Uhl.

The top-six finishers automatically advance to the State Qualifier. Athlete who hit an automatic qualifying marks will also advance, with the remainder of the field determined by top 24 times for track events, top 18 distances for field events, and top 16 times for relays.

The Wolverines finished 15th in the 30-team field in the boys competition, and 15th in the 32-team girls field.

Chamberlain paced the Wolverines' efforts with a second-place finish in the 3,000-meter run, clocking in with a time of 11:43.84.

Junior Haley Larrabee placed third in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:48.87, while senior Harper Minaker was fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:25.6, and sophomore Chase Hine was fourth in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 10:52.1.

Senior Nic Mattison placed sixth in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:33.6.

The foursome of Chamberlain, Larrabee, Minaker, and freshman Addison Temple placed second in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:38.27, and the quartet of Hine, juniors Hayden Howe and Logan Roskow and sophomore Jayden Washington finished second in the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 9:35.83.

Freshmen Jesse Lantz, Hayden Roskow, Jaxon Chandler and Connor Bentley teamed to place fourth in a time of 1:45.02.

There were also solid performance that did not reach the podium for the Wolverines.

Chandler finished seventh in the high jump at 5-feet, 3-inches, which qualified for the upcoming Section IV State Qualifier, and Hayden Roskow was 12th at 5-feet.

Chandler also finished eighth in the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 10.07 seconds.

Logan Roskow finished eighth in the 1,000-meter run in a time of 2:51.56, and Howe finished eighth in the 600-meter run in a time of 1:35.

Freshman Liam Arnold was eighth in the weight throw with a heave of 32-feet, 3/4-inch, and junior Mac Talada was 14th at 25-feet, 1/2-inch.

Washington was ninth in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 5:28.03, and freshman Tyler Dixon was 23rd in 6:25.44.

Bentley finished 13th in the long jump with a leap of 15-feet, 5-inches, and freshman Logan Robinson was 19th at 9-feet, 11 1/4-inches.

Talada finished 15th in the shot put with a heave of 30-feet, 2 1/4-inches, and Arnold was 25th in 24-feet, 3 1/4-inches.

Temple was 15th in the 300-meter dash in 50.85 seconds, and freshman Tressa Allen was 16th in 51.55 seconds.

Hayden Roskow was 19th in the 300-meter dash in a time of 42.44 seconds, and Lantz was 21st in 42.87 seconds.

Allen (8.53 seconds) and senior Kendal Shaffer (8.79) finished 20th and 26th, respectively, in the 55-meter dash.

Bentley was 27th in the 55-meter dash in 7.63 seconds.
