THE VALLEY — Postseason wrestling and a STAC divisional playoff game highlight a busy Saturday of high school sports action.
GIRLS WRESTLING
Waverly, Tioga at Section IV Championships, 10 a.m. @ Waverly H.S.: Tioga will send three top seeds — senior Kali Bailey, sophomore Amelia Toomey and freshman Kyah Nelson — into action today, while Waverly has five wrestlers seeded in the top three — second seeds 8th-grader Gianna Rylott and junior Elona Holmes, and third seeds freshman Kennadie Cochrane, junior Emma Vanderhoof, and 8th-grader Gianna Zieniuk.
Tioga will also have sophomore Marcy Moniz, freshman Cora Szymanski, and juniors RaeAnne Week, Ally Chamberlain and Lilly Mezzatesta in action, while Waverly will also send senior Savannah Savercool, sophomores Abi Ready and Abby Sickler, and freshman Faith Hyjek to the mats.
Athens, Sayre at District 4 Championships, 9 a.m. @ Williamsport H.S.: Sophomore Abigail Wagner is the Wildcats lone top seed at the District 4 Championships today, but Athens has second seed junior Hanna Rathbun and Leah Nason, sophomore Daily Young, and freshman Memphis Paul, as well as third seeded junior Emma Renninger and freshman Alyssa Rinebold.
The Wildcats will also have senior Mary Henry, sophomores Joyce Clink, Janaya Heinrich, and Kaylynn Keltz, and freshman Isabella Henry in action.
Sayre will send junior Mikyah Brown, and freshman Cheyanne Roloson to the mats.
BOYS WRESTLING
Sayre at North Section Tournament, 9 a.m.: Sayre has three wrestlers in action at North Section Tournament, led by sophomore Jordan Brown, who is the third seed at 172 pounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
STAC Central Divisional playoff
Waverly (16-2, 11-1) at Chenango Forks (13-5, 11-1), noon: The Wolverines are coming off a 41-30 win over Chenango Valley Wednesday, while the Blue Devils topped Chenango Valley, 57-40, last Saturday.
Waverly won the first meeting at Forks, 53-47, on Jan. 7, but the Blue Devils reciprocated with a win at Waverly, 49-47, on Feb. 5.
The winner hosts Horseheads Wednesday in the STAC semifinals.
