
THE VALLEY — Waverly junior Hogan Shaw led the Wolverines to their second straight Section IV title game, while Athens juniors Leah Nason and Hanna Rathbun each notched on win at the PIAA Girls Wrestling Championships. They are the VSR / Bishop Brothers Construction "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending March 8.
WAVERLY'S SHAW NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BOYS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Shaw averaged 20 points, 2.5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2.5 steals in two games for the Wolverines.
Shaw had 21 points, three rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one blocked shot in a 64-49 win over Lansing in the Section IV, Class B semifinals.
Shaw had 19 points, including five 3-pointers, three steals, two rebounds and two assists in a 51-48 loss to Dryden in the Class B championship game.
Honorable Mentions: Waverly's Porter Daddona (basketball), Sayre's Nick Pellicano (basketball), and Sayre's Ryan Ressler (basketball).
ATHENS' NASON, RATHBUN NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION GIRLS "ATHLETE OF THE WEEK"
Nason and Rathbun each posted 1-2 records at the PIAA Girls Wrestling Championships.
Nason topped Sharpsville's Bella White, 5-3, in the opening round, then lost to defending and eventual state champ Brenda Banks of Panther Valley.
Nason led Dallastown's Nolan Knott, 3-0, in the third period when she was taken down for a fall.
Rathbun opened with a 21-7 loss to McDowell's Chloe Zacherl, who placed fifth overall, but bounced back with a 19-0 technical fail of Gianna Jones of Owen J. Roberts.
She dropped a 2-0 decision to Souderton's Kayla Husti-Luca, who finished eighth, in her next consolation bout.
