LEWISBURG — Sophomore Brayden Pettitt broke his own school record and reached the podium here on Day 2 of the PIAA Class AA Boys Swimming & Diving Championships here Thursday at Bucknell University.
Pettitt finished eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke Thursday night in the championship finals in a time of 59.18 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Pettitt swam the eighth-fastest time in the preliminaries, clocking in with a school-record time of 58.57 seconds, eclipsing his previous mark of 59.51 seconds.
Pettitt is the first Athens state medalist since Frank Chen medaled in the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke in 2014.
The foursome of Pettitt, sophomore Eli Hicks, and seniors Ethan Hicks and Ronel Ankam teamed to finish 17th in a school-record time of 3:21.50, topping their previous mark of 3:22.34.
Ethan Hicks broke the school record in the 100-yard freestyle during the 400 relay, with a split of 48.88 seconds.
Sophomore Eli Hicks was 28th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.79 seconds.
