NTL SOFTBALL: SAYRE RALLIES FROM EARLY DEFICIT; WILLIAMSON BLOWS GAME OPEN LATE IN 18-8 WIN (2025-03-25)

SAYRE — Williamson scored five runs in the top of the first inning, but needed to fend off a Sayre rally in a wire-to-wire, 18-8, six-inning win here on a chilly Monday afternoon at Riverfront Park.

The Warriors took advantage of three Sayre errors to take a 5-0 lead in the top of the first, but Sayre junior Rylee Lantz cranked her first career home run in the home half of the inning to close the gap to 5-2.

Williamson's Kenna Thomas answered with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning to start a four-run rally that pushed the lead to 9-2.

Sayre plated a pair of runs on a two-out Williamson error in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 9-4.

Williamson kept it rolling with two more unearned runs in the of the third inning to extend its lead to 11-4. Sayre committed 10 errors in the contest.

In the bottom of the third, senior Raegan Parrish led off with a double and scored on an infield single by Lantz, who scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of senior Emily Chilson, to cut the lead to 11-6.

In the fourth inning, junior Olivia Thompson belted a one-out double and scored on an error to close the gap to 11-7.

Thomas belted her second two-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to make it 14-7 as Williamson erupted for seven runs to make it 18-7.

Parrish stroked a one-out single in the home half of the sixth, and scored on a two-out RBI double by senior Abbie McGaughey to make it 18-8,, but she was stranded on second to end the game.

Parrish had three hits, including a double, three runs scored, and one RBI, and Lantz homered and singled, scored two runs, and drove in three runs to pace Sayre's 11-hit attack, while freshman Kenna Parrish singled twice and scored one run.

Thompson doubled and scored one run for the Redskins, while McGaughey doubled and drove in one run, senior Mercedez Haggerty and sophomore Mikyah Brown each added a single, freshman Paige Secrist crossed the plate once, and Chilson had one RBI.

Sayre, now 1-2, travels to NEB Thursday.
