BINGHAMTON — Eighth-grader Taylin Gonzalez tossed four shutout innings, and hit one of three Waverly home runs to lead the Wolverines to a 17-6 win over Chenango Forks here Friday afternoon in STAC softball action.
Gonzalez allowed three hits and struck out six in four innings to earn the win.
"Taylin Gonzalez threw a beautiful four innings for us tonight, without a walk," said Waverly coach Brent Doane. "She also supported us on the offensive side with a huge home run.
"We had a lot of contributors on offense tonight with Paige Bubniak and Lecksie Douglas also hitting a home run each," he noted. "And, Hannah Carpenter absolutely tore the cover off the ball.
"Defensively, we played error free for the first time, which I am very proud of," added Doane.
After two scoreless innings, sophomore Hannah Carpenter stroked a two-run single, Gonzalez belted a two-RBI triple, and 7th-grader Paige Bubniak hit her first varsity home run — a two-run shot — to cap a seven-run rally in the top of the third inning.
Senior Brinn Cooney, junior Maddie Cron, and Carpenter smacked back-to-back-to-back doubles in the fourth inning to make it 9-0.
Sophomore Lecksie Douglas hit an RBI double, and junior Delaney Wheeler stroked a two-run single in the sixth inning to extend the lead to 12-0.
