ONEONTA — Senior Zach Moran and junior Nathan McEwen pulled out a come-from-behind three-set win to lift Waverly to a 4-3 win over short-handed Oneonta here Tuesday afternoon in STAC tennis action.
"Nate (McEwen) and Zach (Moran) came through for us again," said Waverly coach Ron Chamberlain, noting the Yellowjackets had several team members on vacation during spring break.
McEwen and Moran dropped a 6-3 decision to Simmone Segal and Miles Gelbsman in the first set, but bounced back to win 7-6 in the second set, winning the tiebreaker, 8-6.
McEwen and Moran cruised to a 6-1 win in the third set.
Oneonta won all three contested singles matches in straight sets, but Waverly picked up a forfeit in the fourth singles, and two doubles matches.
Waverly, now 2-4, returns to action April 23 when it hosts Norwich.
