IAC SOFTBALL: TIOGA ROLLS TO DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP OF MARATHON (13 PHOTOS) (2025-04-16)

TIOGA CENTER — Tioga pounded out 34 hits, including seven by junior RaeAnne Feeko, in just nine innings in a doubleheader sweep of Marathon here on a cold Wednesday afternoon in IAC Small School softball action.

The Tigers won by scores of 18-6 in five innings, and 19-4 in five innings.

Tioga 18, Marathon 6, 5 innings
Tioga overcame an early deficit, and scored in every inning on its way to an 18-6 five-inning win over Marathon in the opening game of a twinbill.

Marathon rapped out three hits and scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but the Tigers answered with three runs without the benefit of a hit — scoring on five base on balls and two wild pitches.

After the Olympians scored a run in the top of the second, Tioga took the lead for good with six runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Tigers loaded the bases on a hit batter and two walks to start the home half of the second, then Feeko smacked a 2-0 pitch to center field for a grand slam to make it 7-4.

After a run scored on a wild pitch, 8th-grader Kate Kithcart stroked an RBI single to cap the rally at 9-4.

Marathon scored twice in the top of the third inning, but Tioga answered with five runs in home half to take a 14-6 lead, and capped their scoring with four runs in the fourth to make it 18-6.

Senior Erin Luther pitched around a single in the top of the fifth inning to end the game via the 12-run "mercy" rule.

Luther earned the win, allowing six runs — four earned — on six hits, while striking out seven and walking three in five innings.

Feeko homered, doubled and singled, stole two bases, scored four runs, and had four RBI, and Kithcart had three hits, including a triple, one run scored, and two RBI to pace Tioga's 12-hit attack, while Luther singled twice and scored one run.

Junior Lilly Mezzatesta tripled, scored one run, and had three RBI in the win, while 8th-grader Bri Lounsbury singled, stole four bases, and scored four runs, sophomore Jade Keaty singled, stole two bases, and scored three runs.

Raegan Foley added a single for the Tigers, while Samantha Golden scored one run, and sophomore Vanessa Tunnicliff drove in one run.

Tioga 19, Marathon 4, 5 innings
Playing as the visiting team, Tioga built a 15-0 lead after 2 1/2 innings on its way to a 19-4 five-inning win in the nightcap.

Feeko banged out four hits, including two doubles and one triple, scored three runs, and drove in three runs to pace Tioga's 22-hit barrage, while Luther tripled, doubled, and singled, scored four runs, and had two RBI, and Mezzatesta had three hits, including a triple, two runs scored, and four RBI.

Kithcart had three hits, including a double, two runs scored and one RBI in the win, while Foley singled twice, scored three runs, and drove in one run, junior Emily Shiner doubled and singled and scored two runs, and Keaty singled twice and drove in two runs.

Tunnicliff singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run for the Tigers, while Golden doubled, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Lounsbury singled, scored one run, and had one RBI.

Kithcart earned the win, allowing four runs — three earned — on seven hits in five innings. She fanned four and walked one.

Tioga, now 6-0, returns to action Thursday when it hosts unbeaten Athens.
