THE SPORTS REPORTS: HORSEHEADS' WOLF NAMED ALL-REGION GIRLS BASKETBALL 'PLAYER OF THE YEAR' — VALLEY WELL-REPRESENTED ON ALL-REGION TEAMS (2025-04-17)

The Sports Reports
The Sports Reports present its All-Region Girls Basketball teams — led by "Player of the Year" Megan Wolf, who led her Horseheads Lady Raiders to a divisional title and their second straight Section IV championship.

Player of the Year
Megan Wolf, Horseheads, senior:
The Southern Tier Sports Report ‘Player of the Year,’ Wolf averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists per game for a sectional championship team. She knocked 40 3-pointers this season, and topped 1,000 career points. She was also an elite defender and is committed to play D-I softball at Binghamton.

Offensive Player of the Year
Mariah Matias, Elmira, sophomore:
The Southern Tier Sports Report ‘Offensive Player of the Year.’ Matias averaged 17.1 points, 13 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game, despite being focal point every game and being double- and triple-teamed all season. She was the Section IV, Class AAA "Player of the Year."

Defensive Player of the Year
Char Starns, Corning, sophomore:
The Southern Tier Sports Report ‘Defensive Player of the Year,’ Starns  averaged 18 points, 15 rebounds and 3 blocked shots per game. She drew the opposition's best post scorer on a nightly basis.

Coach of the Year
Andy Scott, Horseheads:
Led Horseheads to a STAC West Division title and a Sectional IV championship this season.

Newcomer of the Year
Samantha Bonnell, Horseheads, 8th-grade:
Averaged 8 points, 6 assists and 3 steals a game, with a 6-1 assist-to-turnover ratio, running the offense for a 16-6 Section IV championship team.

Haley Litzelman, NP-Liberty, junior:
The NT West Sports Report "Player of the Year," Litselman averaged 16.2 points, including 42 3-pointers, 11.9 rebounds, 4 assists, 4.1 steals, and 1.8 blocked shots per game.

Emmi Makie, Candor, sophomore: The Tioga County (NY) "Player of the Year," Makie had 14 double-doubles, and knocked down a school-record 54 3-pointers on the season. She averaged 19 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 2.9 steals per game, and also shot 75 percent from the free-throw line.

Kailyn Sterling, Troy, senior: - The Bradford County  "Player of the Year," Sterling averaged 15.4 points, 6.9 rebounds, 3.1 steals, 2.7 assists per game.

Addy Wheeler, Athens, senior: The Valley Sports Report "Player of the Year," Wheeler averaged 13.8 points, including 20 3-pointers, 7.5 rebounds, 4 assists, 6.2 steals and 3 deflections per game.

Kendall Kitchen, Canton, senior: The Bradford County "Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Kitchen averaged 14.6 points per game, and knocked down 67 3-pointers.

Leah Beebe, NEB, junior: The Bradford County "Co-Offensive Player of the Year," Beebe averaged 15 points per game, and canned 50 3-pointers.

Mali Huffner, Edison, junior: Huffier averaged 14 points and 4 steals a game.

Payton Sutryk, Notre Dame, junior: Sutryk averaged 14.5 points, and 8.1 rebounds per game.

Ryleigh Judson, Waverly, sophomore: Judson averaged 12.7 points, with 46 3-pointers, 4.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.5 steals per game.

Addy Westbrook, Waverly, senior: Westbrook averaged 12 points, including 32 3-pointers, 6.4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2.7 steals per game.

Samantha Bonnell, Horseheads, 8th-grade:

Chloe Brandenburg, Wellsboro, senior: The NT West Sports Report "Offensive Player of the Year," Brandenburg averaged 14 points per game, with 47 3-pointers, 2.2 assists, 4.9 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game.

Kalysta DeMark, Notre Dame, junior:
DeMark averaged 12.2 points, 4.2 assists, and 3.1 steals per game.

Cailyn VanNoy, Canton, sophomore: VanNoy averaged 12.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.9 steals per game.

Alyssa Parks, Troy, senior:
Parks averaged 11.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.4 steals per game.

Brynn Woodruff, Towanda, junior: Woodruff averaged 14 points per game, and knocked 30 3-pointers.

Jordyn Gross, Horseheads, senior: Gross averaged 10 points, and 8 rebounds per game.

Addison Taft, Elmira, senior: Taft averaged 10.2 points, and 3.4 steals per game.

Olivia Meisner, Williamson, senior: Meisner averaged 10.4 points, 7.7 rebounds, 1.7 steals, 1.3 assists per game, and 2.2 blocked shots per game.

Paige Logsdon, Wellsboro, senior: Logsdon averaged 10 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, 2 assists, and 1.7 steals per game.

Ashley Woodring, Cowanesque Valley, senior: Woodring averaged 12.5 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 3 steals per game.

Madison McEvoy, senior, Owego: McEvoy averaged 12.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.9 steals, 5.1 deflections, and 3.7 steals per round. She also knocked down 51 3-pointers on the season, and graduates No. 4 all-time on Owego's scoring list with 1,161 points.

Lillie Maynard, NEB, senior: Maynard averaged 12 points per game.

ALL-REGION THIRD TEAM
McKenna Jarvis, Athens, sophomore:
Jarvis averaged 10.4 points, and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Alysha Botts, Wyalusing, sophomore: Botts averaged 11.5 points per game.

Giana Renzi, Troy, sophomore: Renzi averaged 10.1 points, 2.8 assists, and 2.0 steals per game.

Payton Perry, Towanda, sophomore:
Perry averaged 12 points per game, and knocked down 30 3-pointers.

Adrianna Finta, senior, Newark Valley: An athletic all-around player, Finta averaged 11.2 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 4 steals, and 4.2 deflections per game. She also knocked down nine 3-pointers.

Abbie McGaughey, Sayre, senior: McGaughey averaged 8.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, 0.9 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.

Lexi Herceg, senior, Owego: Featuring a non-stop motor, Herceg averaged 10.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2 assists, 2.4 steals, and 2.8 deflections per game.

Sara Bronson, Athens, senior: Bronson averaged 8.1 points, including 22 3-pointers, 4 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 2 steals per game.

Kaitlyn Sutton, Waverly, junior: Sutton averaged 8 points, including 29 3-pointers, 4.3 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 2.4 steals per game.

Kameron Lightner, NP-Mansfield, junior: Lightner averaged 12 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.2 steals per game.

Alyvia Woodruff, Elmira, senior: Woodruff averaged 8 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals per game.

Maddie Ribble, Horseheads, sophomore: Ribble averaged 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists per game.

Kenna Thomas, Williamson, junior: Thomas averaged 9.4 points, with 21 3-pointers, 8.7 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 2.8 blocks per game.

Ella Churchill, Cowanesque Valley, senior:
Churchill averaged 13 points, with 16 3-pointers, 6.4 rebounds,  and 2 steals per game.

Chloe Bennett, Wyalusing, senior: Bennett averaged 11 points per game, and knocked down 45 3-pointers.

2024-25 ALL-REGION NEWCOMERS
Samantha Bonnell, Horseheads, 8th-grade:

Jenna McEvoy, Owego, freshman:
McEvoy averaged 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.9 steals, and 2.9 deflections. She knocked down 33 3-pointers, and took four offensive charges.

Allie Kemp, Athens, freshman:
Kemp averaged 6.2 points, with 22 3-pointers, 2.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.

Claire Rollins, sophomore, Candor:  A consistent performer for the Coyotes, Rollins averaged 9.4 points, 4.7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3.2 steals per game.

Kyah Renzo, Troy, freshman: Renzo averaged 4 points, 2.3 rebounds per game.

Maddie McNamara, North Penn-Mansfield, freshman: McNamara averaged 10.5 points, and 3 steals per game.

Addison Vendzales, Edison, sophomore: Vendzales had six games with nine or more points, and six games with 10 or more rebounds.

Grace Kio, Corning, freshman: Kim played half the season on varsity and averaged 10 rebounds a game.

Teagan Novinger, Wellsboro, freshman: Novinger averaged 6.4 points, and 8 rebounds per game.

Eva Crawford, 8th-grader, Owego: An emerging force in the paint for the River Hawks, Crawford averaged 4.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 1.9 steals, and 2.4 deflections.

Shawna Conklin, Candor: Conklin, who became a force in the paint late in the season, averaged 2.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game.

Lauren Gillette, junior, S-VE:  A consistent performer, Gillette averaged 8 points, 5 rebounds, 0.9 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. She had one double-double on the season.
