NTL SOFTBALL: SAYRE LETS LATE LEAD SLIP AWAY IN LOSS TO SULLIVAN COUNTY (2025-04-23)

SAYRE — Sullivan County scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning, and six more in the seventh to blow open a close game en route to a 16-5 win over Sayre here Wednesday afternoon in non-league softball action at Riverfront Park.

The Griffins scored a run in the top of the fourth inning to break a scoreless tie, then added three runs in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.

In the home half of the fifth, freshman Emily Strickland led off with a single, and senior Mercedez Haggerty reach base on an error.

With one out, junior Olivia Thomas grounded a hard RBI single into left field to put the Redskins on the board.

After a single by freshman McKenna Parrish loaded the bases, senior Raegan Parrish singled into center field to score two runs and close the gap to 4-3.

Senior Abbie McGaughey followed with an RBI single into left field to tie the game at 4-4, and the Redskins tacked on another run in the rally to take a 5-4 advantage.

The lead was short-lived, however, as the Griffins scored six runs in the top of the sixth — all with two outs — to take a 10-5 lead.

Thompson singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run, and McKena Parrish singled twice and scored one run to pace Sayre's nine-hit attack, while Raegan Parrish singled and had two RBI and McGaughey and so sophomore Mikyah Brown each had one hit and one RBI.

Strickland singled and scored one run for the Redskibns, while sophomore Zoey Ward  singled, and Haggerty scored one run.

Sayre, now 2-8, returns to action Friday when it hosts NP-Liberty.
