TIOGA'S DUNCANSON WINS FREESTYLE TITLE; JACKSON, CORBY ALSO PLACE

BINGHAMTON — Tioga sophomore Declan McKee finished off a triple crown, winning 113-pound titles in freestyle and Greco Roman in the Junior Boys Division at the Jeff Blatnick N.Y. State USA Wrestling Championships at SUNY Broome over the weekend.
McKee, who also won NYSPHSAA (folkstyle) gold, was 3-0 to win the freestyle title on Saturday.
McKee beat A.J. LaBella of Sayville, 11-9, in the quarterfinals, then scored a 10-0 technical fall of Reese Zakar of Miller Place High School in 55 seconds in the semifinals.
In the finals, McKee fell behind 2-0 in the opening moments, but countered to take a 4-2 lead before pinning Messiah Grant of Amsterdam in 1:25.
In Greco Roman action Sunday, McKee was 3-0, with two technical falls and one pin to win the 113-pound title in a round-robin format.
McKee scored a 14-3 technical fall win over LaBella in 3:51 in the opening round, then decked Kurt Ziegler of Ontario in 2:42 in the second round.
In round 3, McKeen met Grant, also 2-0, in a rematch of their freestyle finals match-up on Saturday.
McKee led 8-7 after the first period, but trailed 15-14 before scoring five points in the final 34 seconds to pull out a wild 19-15 decision to win the title.
Tioga junior Jayden Duncanson also won a freestyle title, claiming the 144-pound goal in the Junior Division.
Duncanson advanced to the finals with a dominant run, notching three technical falls and a pin.
He opened with a 10-0 technical fall of Trent Denniston of Centereach in 32 seconds, then repeated that performance with a 10-0 win over Van Green of Fonda / Johnstown in 1:11.
In the quarterfinals, Duncanson decked Brendon Katimbang of Lindenhurst in 1:21 to reach the semifinals, where he scored an 11-1 technical fall win over Koyla Krisa of Glens Falls in 2:40.
In the finals, Phillip Provenzano of Fairport led 1-0 after the first period, but Duncanson took over in the second period and led 10-5 until a late score by Provenzano to make it 10-7.
Eighth-grader Parker Jackson finished second in the 105-pound bracket in the 14U Freestyle Division, and 8th-grader Harold Corby placed third in Greco Roman and fourth in freestyle in 92-pound brackets in the 14U divisions.
Sophomore James Howey (14U), and freshman Drayke Ulrich (16U) also competed.
