WESTFIELD — Sophomore Connor Davidson tossed a 2-hitter, and received plenty of offensive support in Athens' 12-0 five-inning win over Cowanesque Valley here Thursday afternoon in NTL baseball action.
Davidson fanned seven and walked two to earn the win in the five-inning shutout.
The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead on an unearned run in the top of the first inning, and added a run in the second on an RBI single by sophomore Duncan Thetga to make it 2-0.
Davidson belted a one-out double in the third inning, and sophomores Brady Flynn and Brendan Cooke delivered back-to-back RBI singles to extend the Wildcat lead to 4-0.
Athens brought the 10-run rule into play with an eight-run rally in the top of the fifth inning to make it 12-0. The rally featured RBI singles by senior Dylan Saxon, Davidson, and Flynn, and sacrifice flies by Cooke and senior Troy Rosenbloom.
Flynn singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in two runs for the Wildcats, while Davidson doubled and singled, scored two runs, and had one RBI, and Rosenbloom singled twice, scored two runs, and knocked in one run to pace Athens' 10-hit attack.
Cooke singled, scored one run, and had two RBI in the win, while Thetga singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Saxon singled and knocked in one run, and junior Eli Hobday singled and scored one run.
Sophomore Kam Wheeler scored one run and drove in one run for the Wildcats, and junior Eli Hobday crossed the plate once.
Athens, now 14-2, returns to action Friday at Selinsgrove.
