Valley Sports ReportHORSEHEADS — Tioga senior James Luther struggled on the back nine of the soggy Soaring Eagles Golf Course, shooting a 98 at the Section IV Individual Medalists Tournament here Saturday.
Playing through intermittent rain showers on a course that has held up remarkably well considering the rain this spring, Luther shot a 44 on the front nine, but finished off with a 54 on the final nine holes on the 6,916-yard course.
The top nine finishers are headed to States to represent Section IV. They are Section IV Champ Sam Ligas of Binghamton, who shot a 71, Justin Alford of Vestal, the Maine-Endwell duo of Tina Shattuck and Chase Buckley, the Greene duo of Lincoln Youngs and Parker Flanagan, Groton's Conor Eldred, Horseheads' Jack Festech, and Candor's Noah Banks.
Flanagan, Buckley, Festech and Banks each shot 79 to take the final spots for the Section IV team.
Eldred and Banks are the only two golfers to play their regular-season golf in the spring. The STAC and MAC play golf in the fall.
Tioga returns to action Tuesday at the Class C Championships at Maple Hills Golf Course in Marathon.
