SECTION IV TRACK & FIELD: WAVERLY GIRLS CROWN THREE CHAMPS; FINISH FOURTH AT CLASS C CHAMPIONSHIPS (2025-05-29)

ONEONTA — Waverly crowned three champions — two relays and freshman Gianna Soprano — on its way to a fourth-place finish here Thursday afternoon at the Section IV, Class C track & field championships.

Oneonta ran away with the team title with 134.5 points, while runner-up Lansing had 84 points, and third-place Sidney had 83 points. Waverly and Chenango Forks each tallied 53 to finish in a tie for fourth, and Dryden was sixth with 52 points.

Sophomore Makenzie Olmsted, junior Troy Beeman, and the Lady Wolverines' third relay were the only other automatic qualifiers (top three in each event) for next week's State Qualifier. The remainder of participants will be determined from the remaining times, heights and distances.

Soprano won the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:11.63, and 8th-grader Brynna Twedt was ninth in 1:23.82. Soprano was fourth in the pole vault at 7-feet, and eighth in the 100-meter hurdles at 21.19 seconds.

Sophomore Ryleigh Judson was a double-winner, running on both of Waverly's winning relays.

Judson teamed with senior Harper Minaker, junior Mackenzie Chamberlain, and Makenzie Olmsted to win the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 10:33.91.

Judson also teamed with juniors Haley Larrabee and Kaitlyn Sutton, and freshman Kaylin Twedt to win the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 4:07.22. ... The same foursome finished third in the 400-meter relay in a time of 52.04 seconds.

Makenzie Olmsted placed third in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 5:37.0, and freshman Lilliana Boothby was eighth in 5:57.9.

Twedt finished fourth in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:00.12, and Larrabee was ninth in 1:04.22.

Sophomore Taylor Sinsabaugh placed fifth in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 13:51.6

Senior Addison Westbrook finished sixth in the discus with a toss of 81-feet, 2-inches, and freshman Kendall Rockwell was 18th in 55-feet, 2-inches. Rockwell finished 11th in the shot put at 24-feet, 6 1/4-inches, and Westbrook was 12th at 24-feet, 4 1/4-inches.

Senior Madelyn Olmsted finished eighth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:53.92, and freshman Miah Correll was 11th in 2:59.37.

Freshman Tressa Allen was 10th in the 200-meter dash in 29.88 seconds.
Allen finished 11th in the 100-meter dash in 14.43 seconds, and 8th-grader Gianna Rylott was 12th in 14.56 seconds.

BEEMAN PACES WAVERLY BOYS AT CLASS C CHAMPIONSHIPS
Lansing won the team title with 134 points, while Oneonta was second with 124, Chenango Forks was third with 87 points, and Susquehanna Valley was fourth with 42. Waverly tallied 23.33 points to finish eight.

Beeman placed third in the discus with a toss of 125-feet, and sophomore Carson Rockwell was 17th at 95-feet, 6-inches.

Beeman finished sixth in the shot put with a heave of 40-feet, 1/2-inch, and senior Payton Fravel was 17th in 34-feet, 1/2-inch.

Seniors Nic Mattison and Riley Pipher, junior Hayden Howe and sophomore Jayden Washington teamed to finish fourth in the 3,200-meter relay in a time of 8:37.9.

Freshman Jaxon Chandler placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 18.05 seconds. He finished sixth in the high jump at 5-feet, 6-inches.

Senior Seth Noto placed fifth in the long jump at 19-feet, 4 1/2-inches, and freshman Connor Bentley was 21st at 15-feet, 8-inches. Noto was also fifth in the 100-meter dash in 11.75 seconds, and junior Andrew Larrabee was 14th in 12.3 seconds.

Mattison, Pipher and Howe, teamed with freshman Drayton DeKay teamed to finish sixth in the 1,600-meter relay in a time of 3:43.97.

DeKay placed sixth in the pole vault at 10-feet, 6-inches, and Pipher placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:02.99. DeKay finished 14th in the triple jump with a mark of 36-feet, 9 3/4-inches.

Mattison placed sixth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:03.67, and Howe was seventh in 2:12.13.

Sophomore Chase Hine was seventh in the 1,600-meter run in a time of 4:59.42, and freshman Hayden Montanye was 11th in 5:12.58.

Freshman Garret Akins was 14th in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 14:18.04.

Junior Brance VanDyke was 19th in the 200-meter dash in 25.82 seconds, and Bentley was 20th in 25.82 seconds.

The State Qualifier is set for Wednesday and Thursday at Union-Endicott.
