
THE VALLEY — After its upset win in the Section IV, Class C softball playoffs Thursday, third-seeded Tioga will take on top-seeded and state's top-ranked Deposit-Hancock Saturday at noon at the Greenlight Grand Slam Park.
Tioga, ranked 16th in the state, enters the contest at 15-3, coming off a 4-3 win over second-seeded Union Springs, which beat the Tigers 13-1 and 4-0 in their first two meetings this season.
The Lumberjacks, who won the last three Class D state titles and seven of the last eight contested, enter the game at 18-2 on the heels of a 10-0 win over fifth-seeded Bainbridge Guilford.
Deposit-Hancock, behind ace hurler Addison Makowski has won its last six games via shutout, outscoring its opponents, 82-0. On the season, has allowed just one run in its 18 wins.
D-H's losses are to Abington Heights, a PIAA Class 6A powerhouse, and St. Anthony's, a Catholic school powerhouse.
Tioga losses are the Athens (21-1), which won a District 4, Class 4A title, and two losses to Union Springs (18-1).
Tioga won its only Section IV title in 2009, and is 0-4 in Class C title games since then, including a 16-1 loss to Union Springs last year.
