VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: ATHENS' HILEY, TIOGA'S KITHCART, EARLEY NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION 'ATHLETES OF THE WEEK' (2025-06-03)

THE VALLEY — Sophomore Gretchan Hiley pitched Athens to new heights, while 8th-grader Kate Kithcart led Tioga back into the Section IV championship game, and Tioga senior Andrew Earley advanced to the Section IV Track & Field State Qualifier in four events. They are the Valley Sports Report / Bishop Brothers Construction "Athletes of the Week," for the week ending May 31.

ATHENS' HILEY, TIOGA'S KITHCART NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION GIRLS "ATHLETES OF THE WEEK"
Hiley tossed a complete-game three-hitter to lead Athens to a 4-1 win over Central Columbia for its first-ever District 4 softball title.

Hiley allowed one run over seven innings, while striking out 13 and walking none.

Kithcart posted a 2-1 record on the week, beating Southern Cayuga in the Class D quarterfinals, and Union Springs, ranked 6th in the state, in the semifinals, before a loss to three-time defending state champ and top-ranked Deposit-Hancock in the finals.

Kithcart posted a 2.10 ERA over 20 innings, striking out 18 and walking two.

At the plate, she batted .400 (4 hits in 10 ABs) with one run scored, and three RBI.

TIOGA'S EARLEY NAMED BISHOP BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION BOYS "ATHLETES OF THE WEEK"
Earley automatically qualified for the State Qualifier with top-three finishes in three events, and also earned a of wild card entries.

Earley won the 400-meter hurdles at the Class D championships, and finished second in the 110-meter hurdles. He was also on the third-place 1,600-meter relay.

Earley finished fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 39-feet, 9 3/4-inches to earn a wild card.
