Valley Sports ReportATHENS — Hadley Liechty tossed a 1-hitter and the Athens offense pounded out 15 hits in a four-inning 17-0 win over Wellsboro in the opening round of bracket play in the District 15 Little League softball Minors Division playoffs.
Liechty fanned 10 and walked one in four innings to earn the win.
Athens, playing as the visiting team, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and scored six more in the second to extend the lead to 9-0. They tacked on five more runs in the third and three in the fourth.
Nora Morales was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI to pace Athens at the plate, while Amelia Braunbeck singled twice, scored one run, and had three RBI, Breah Wilcox singled twice, scored one run, and drove in two runs, and Liechty doubled and singled, scored three runs, and knocked in one run.
Livia Powers tripled, scored two runs, and had three RBI in the win, while Ava Rhodes singled, scored two run, and drove in one run, Ada Wilson singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Carly Bishop singled and scored three runs, Cece Shangraw singled and scored one run, and Lindsay Ahern doubled and scored one run.
Athens will host Towanda Friday in the semifinals.
