Valley Sports ReportATHENS — RTL wiped out an early Athens lead, but Athens had an answer as well on its way to a 10-4 win over RTL here Thursday evening in the semifinals of the District 15 Little League Majors Division softball playoffs.
Athens will face Troy in the winner's bracket finals Monday at 6 p.m. at Wysox.
Athens scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, and led 2-0 after two innings.
RTL plated three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead, but Athens answered immediately with four runs in the home half of the inning to take a 6-3 lead.
Athens plated two more runs in the fourth inning to stretch its lead to 8-3, then answered an RTL run in the top of the fifth with two more in the bottom of the inning to take a 10-4 lead.
Sophia Barrett doubled and singled, scored three runs, and had two RBI, and Sadie Wanck tripled, scored three runs, and drove in two runs to pace Athens' six-hit attack.
Terrianna Orshal singled and had two RBI in the win, while Molly McGrath singled and scored one run, Bryn Bishop added a single, Harper Liechty had one RBI, and
Haylee Bickhart, Ameilia Archibald, and Kendall Butcher each scored one run.
McGrath earned the win in the pitcher's circle, allowing three runs, while striking out seven and walking four in three innings of no-hit ball.
Olivia Wilcox closed out the game, allowing one run on one hit, while striking out three in three innings of relief.
