DISTRICT 15 LITTLE LEAGUE (MAJORS): TUNKHANNOCK RIDES PAIR OF BIG INNINGS TO 20-5 WIN OVER SAYRE (2025-06-20)

TUNKHANNOCK — Tunkhannock posted a pair of big innings to pull away for a 20-5 four-inning win over Sayre here Friday evening in the opening-round of the District 15 Little League Majors Division baseball playoffs.

Sayre, playing as the home team, scored in the bottom of the first inning when Razier VanHousen scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.

Tunkhannock then scored eight runs in the second inning, and more in the top of the third to take a 17-1 lead.

Sayre avoided the 15-run "mercy" rule with two runs in the bottom of the third, scoring both with two outs. Connor Kmetz's RBI single was the key hit in the inning.

Tunkhannock answered with four runs in the fourth inning to up its lead to 20-3.

Sayre scored two more runs in the home half of the inning to close the gap to 20-5, but left the bases loaded.

Kmetz singled and drove in one run, while Atillio Angellino and Wesley Szollosy each stroked a single to account for Sayre's three hits 

VanHousen scored two runs, and Andrew Howey and Evan Varner each crossed the plate once for Sayre.

Szollosy had the best turn on the mound for Sayre, striking out one in a scoreless inning of relief.

Sayre returns to action Tuesday against the loser of the Elk Lake-RTL game.
