Valley Sports ReportATHENS — It was a pitcher's duel in the truest sense of the word. In an exchange of 1-hitters, Southern Tioga edged Athens, 1-0, in the winner's bracket finals of the District 15 Little League Minors Division softball playoffs here on a blistering hot Tuesday evening.
Southern Tioga's Wesley Seymour fanned 16 and walked none in six innings. to earn the win.
Athens ace Hadley Liechty was tagged with the tough-luck loss, allowing an unearned run, while striking out 16 and walking seven in six innings.
Cece Shangraw's bunt single with two outs in the bottom of the sixth was Athens' lone hit in the contest.
The game's lone run was scored in the top of the sixth. Seymour singled — Southern Tioga's lone hit — with one out to put runners on first and third, and an Athens error scored the game-winner.
Athens will now host Towanda, which beat RTL 8-7, in the consolation bracket finals Thursday, with the winner to face Southern Tioga Saturday in the championship round.
