
ATHENS — Athens took an early lead, but Blue Ridge rallied for a 6-4 win here Saturday afternoon in the championship game of the District 15 Little League 11U baseball playoffs.
Athens took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a two-run triple by Grant Campbell.
Blue Ridge answered with two runs in the home half of the inning, then scored three runs in the third inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Athens closed the gap to 5-3 on a two-out double by Lincoln Miller in the top of the fourth inning.
Blue Ridge added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth inning to up its advantage to 6-3.
Beau Hall knocked in a run for Athens with a scarce fly in the top of the sixth to trim the deficit to 6-4, but Athens' rally stalled there.
Campbell tripled and singled, scored one run, and had two RBI to pace Athens' five-hit attack, while Hall singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Miller doubled and knocked in one run, Parker Collum added a single, and Landon Briggs and Bentley Stephens each scored a run.
Leo Loziere had the best turn on the mound for Athens, allowing one run on two hits, while striking out four and walking three in two innings of relief.
