
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — South Williamsport scored three unearned runs in the third inning on its way to a 6-1 win over Athens here Wednesday in the championship round of the Section III Little League Seniors Division baseball playoffs.
Six Athens errors led to six unearned runs in the loss.
Athens left seven runners on base, including six in scoring position in the first three innings.
South Williamsport, which beat Athens 7-1 in the winner's bracket finals, rapped out four singles in the bottom of the third, but took advantage of a two-out error that kept the inning alive.
Athens got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Brendan Cooke was hit by a pitch, and scored on an RBI double by Brady Flynn to trim the deficit to 3-1.
Athens committed three errors in the bottom of the sixth as South Williamsport scored three runs without the benefit of a hit to extend its lead to 6-1.
Brady Flynn doubled and singled, and drove in one run, while Collin Congdon added a single to account for Athens' three hits, and Cooke scored one run and stole two bases.
Flynn was tagged with the loss, allowing six runs — all unearned — on six hits, with two strikeouts and four walks in 5 2/3 innings.
