ON TAP TODAY: NTL'S FIRST GOLF MATCH KICKS OFF VALLEY'S 2025-26 SPORTS YEAR (2025-09-11)

THE VALLEY — Athens and Sayre golfers will kick off the 2025-26 Valley sports year this morning in the first NTL match of the season at the Towanda Country Club.

Athens is not only the four-time defending NTL champion, but the District 4 champion, and is riding a 22-match win streak heading into the season after posting a 36-0 record (six points per match) last year.

Sayre on the other hand, was 0-36 last year and graduated three seniors.

The Wildcats return two of the top six golfers in the NTL last season in junior Ethan Hicks, who second with an average of 78 and was the Class 3A District 4 runner-up to earn a trip to States, and sophomore Ty Owen, who was sixth with an 84.36 average.

Junior Lucas Greninger, who was 24th in the NTL with a 97.5 average, and sophomore Brooke Lyon, who shot a girls school-record round of 85 and also had an 86, also return.

Junior Shaine Strickland is Sayre's top returning golfer.
