SAYRE — Sayre laced up their cleats Saturday morning for its first live football action in a scrimmage against Wellsboro here at the Lockhart Street Bowl.
Redskin coach Ricky Lindblad said his team has focused on tackling and it paid off against the Hornets.
"I feel like we started and played well overall defensively in the scrimmage," he said. "Our tackling has improved and that was a huge focus in the offseason for us."
Offensively, the Redskins have some things to work on, says Lindblad.
"Offensively, we need to clean up our mistakes and be more effective in our plays.
"We had flashes when we executed our assignments and had bright points, but we also had multiple turnovers," Lindblad noted.
Lindblad said the Redskins had a number of standouts, led by senior Logan Zingeser, sophomores Zac Cross, Tucker Green, and Riley McGaughey, and juniors Declan Barry, and Hudson Malanoski.
Sayre opens the 2025 campaign at home Friday against the defending PIAA Class AA state champion Troy Trojans. Game time is 7 p.m.
