WESTFIELD — Sayre finished off a sweep of Cowanesque Valley with a huge comeback in the third set here Tuesday night in NTL Small School volleyball action.
The Redskins won the first set 25-14, and pulled out a back-and-forth second set, 25-23.
In the third set, the Indians built an 18-7 lead, but Sayre rallied for a 25-23 win to complete the sweep.
The win is the second in a row for the Redskins, who snapped a 68-match losing streak last week with a sweep of NEB.
"The girls did an awesome job tonight," said first-year coach Colby Sangrey.
"The team chemistry is really starting to come along, and I'm proud of how hard they play every night," he noted.
"Rylee Lantz and Reghan McGaughey each had a fantastic night at the net offensively and defensively.
"Grace Russo stepped up to play the whole way around for us tonight and did everything we needed and more," said Sangrey.
"We got strong service runs and defense from Alex and Lilliana Schack all night to keep our momentum going, which was huge for us," he noted. "Yhale Doon was out there running our offense smoothly and creating opportunities for our hitters.
"Azalea McClenny gave us a lot of smart plays in the middle and was keeping plays alive with her hustle.
"The girls showed a lot of resilience in the third set, being down 18-7 and fighting the whole way back to take it," added Snagrey. "This team is doing a lot of good things and it's continuing to come together. I'm very excited to work through the season with them."
