ROCHESTER — Athens grad Mason Lister, a junior on the St. John Fisher football team, got his first collegiate start in a 28-21 loss to the University of Rochester here Saturday afternoon.

Lister topped 200 yards through the air, and also led the Cardinals with 117 rushing years.

Lister completed 17 of 29 passes for 222 yards and two TDs, and no interceptions. He started the game 5-for-12 for 39 yards.

Waverly grad Nate DeLill had one catch for 3 yards for the Cardinals.

Lister's first TD pass was an 11-yard strike to Ethan Curtis with 27 seconds remaining in the first half to close the gap to 13-7.

Lister had another 11-yard TD pass to Curtis early in the fourth quarter to pull St. John Fisher within six, at 20-14.

In the fourth quarter, Lister engineered an eight-play, 99-yard drive to put the Cardinals ahead 21-20 with 6:01 remaining in the game. The drive included a 69-yard pass to Jaylen Brantley, who had six catches for 132 yards.

After Rochester scored with 2:33 remaining to take a 28-21 lead, St. John Fisher started its next possession at its own 8.

Lister completed his first three passes, and added runs of 12 and 11 yards to move the ball into Rochester territory. After another 17-yard completion on fourth-and-10, the Cardinals had the ball at the Yellowjacket 16, but only gained one more yard (on a run by Lister) before turning the ball over on down with 4 seconds remaining.

Last year, Lister saw action in five games. He completed 13 of 24 passes for 199 yards, one TD and one interception. He also had one reception for 3 yards.

St. John Fisher, now 3-0, hosts Alfred University next Saturday at 2 p.m.
