TIOGA CENTER — Groton scored a pair of goals early in the second half to break open a one-goal game in a 3-1 win over Tioga here Wednesday afternoon in IAC Small School crossover boys soccer action at Haggerty Field.

"We just never really seemed to get motivated to play in the first half and it got us into a position where we had to play from behind," said Tioga coach Donnie Van Dusen.

"We did make some good runs and have some positive energy in the second half," he noted.

"I think the hardest part for us right now is getting the mental part of soccer," added Van Dusen. "We will watch some film and hopefully come out more focused and confident for our next ones."

Evan Bessler started the scoring just 81 seconds into the game with a perfectly-placed strike from 45 yards that dropped under the bar and over the outstretched fingers of Tioga keeper David Van Dusen.

Tim Forehand and Brody Jackson scored for the Red Hawks in the second to give them a 3-0 lead.

Sophomore Drayke Ulrich scored his first varsity goal with 15:58 remaining in the contest to put Tioga on the board.

Groton had a 20-15 advantage in shots-on-goal, and a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.

David VanDusen recorded 17 saves in net for the Tigers.

Tioga, now 1-7, returns to action Monday when it hosts Thomas A. Edison.
