SYRACUSE — After its convincing win over Class D's top-ranked Delhi last week, Tioga vaulted into the top spot in this week's New York State Sportswriters Association's rankings, while Waverly's spot in the Class B field remained unchanged.
CLASS D
Tioga, now 2-1, is No. 1 in the Class D rankings, while Delhi (2-1) dropped to sixth, Trumansburg (2-1) is 12th, and Deposit-Hancock (2-1) is 14th.
SVEC (2-1) and Walton (2-1) both received honorable mention recognition.
Elsewhere, Section II's Greenwich (3-0), Section I's Tuckahoe (3-0), Section VI's Newfane (3-0) and Section III's Lowville (3-0) are ranked second through fifth, respectively.
Other familiar names, Section II's Cambridge-Salem (2-1) — Tioga's victim in the 2022 state title game — is ranked eighth, Section III's Dolgeville (1-1) — Tioga's frequent foe in the state quarterfinals - is ranked ninth, and longtime Tioga nemesis Randolph (3-0) is ranked 15th.
CLASS B
Waverly, now 3-0, remains fourth in the Class B rankings, behind Section IX's Port Jervis (3-0), Section XI's Sayville (2-0), and Section V's Monroe (3-0), which are ranked first through third, respectively.
Owego (2-1) is ranked 12th again this week, while Maine-Endwell (0-2) has fallen from 17th into the honorable mention, along with Norwich (1-2).
CLASS C
Chenango Forks remains atop the Class C rankings this week, while Windsor fell from second to 12th after its loss to Forks last week.
Susquehanna Valley is an honorable mention this week.
EIGHT-MAN
Moravia (2-0) is the top-ranked eight-man team in the state, while Edison (2-0) is ranked fifth, and Unatego (2-1) is eighth. Dryden (2-0) is an honorable mention.
CLASS A
Horseheads, on the heels of its 14-12 win at Maine-Endwell, is ranked 11th in Class A, while Union-Endicott (2-0), which edged Corning, is 16th, and Vestal (2-1) is 17th.
