NTL BOYS SOCCER: WILLIAMSPORT EDGES ATHENS, 1-0 (14 PHOTOS) (2025-10-04)

ATHENS — Williamsport scored about 14 minutes into the second half, and made it stand in a 1-0 win over Athens here Saturday afternoon in non-league boys soccer action at Alumni Stadium.

"This is a tough loss to take," said Athens coach Travis Reynard. "We didn’t play to the best of our ability and were caught walking all over the field.

"This game is a learning lesson for all the boys as they now know that they can’t switch off the mindset when they concede a goal because that is what happened today.

"We simply were not good enough all around," added Reynard.

Athens was outshot 4-1, and Williamsport also had a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.

"Offensively, our best moments came when we kept possession and moved the ball, but there were not many chances," said Reynard. "Only having one true shot on target is not going to help us win games and be where we want to be especially going into the final stretch of the season.

"As a coaching staff we are looking at all options and going to make decisions based on what we need to win the game and finish strong.

"Defensively, we held our own," noted Reynard. "We played well out of the air, but were caught backing off at times.

"We watched the game around us instead of being apart of the game defensively which led to the opportunity that Williamsport capitalized on," he added.

After a scoreless first half, Wyatt Judge scored with 25:51 remaining in the contest to put Williamsport up 1-0.

Athens wraps up the NTL regular-season this week, and can claim a league title with wins over Galeton and North Penn-Liberty.

"We finish out the NTL season this week with Galeton and Liberty and must be at our best to achieve the goal we want to achieve. which is being NTL champs," said Reynard.

"It will take us playing as a team to get there and learning from today and making adjustments to be successful," he added.
