BINGHAMTON — Sophomore Alissa Vough finished third and led Athens to the Class B girls team title here Saturday at the McDaniel-Baxter Cross Country Invitational, while the Athens and Waverly boys finished second and third, respectively.
The Lady Wildcats were third overall, behind Section IV powers Corning and Ithaca.
“Today was a good day for our program," said Athens coach Mike Bronson. "Both varsity teams and both junior high teams ran really well.
"The work that they have been putting in this season is paying off,” added Bronson.
ATHENS GIRLS WIN CLASS B TITLE
Vough clocked in at 16:55, behind only Ithaca junior Tsadia Bercuvitz, who ran away from the field in a time of 15:05, and Corning senior Olivia Martinez, who crossed the finish line in 16:47.
Senior Ava Hughes finished 16th for the Wildcats in a time of 19:07, while sophomore Marlene Roelle was 22nd in 19:30, and senior Karoli Roelle was 37th in 20:38.
Junior Haylie Horton finished 45th for Athens in a time of 21:39, while freshman Adaline Burnett was 49th in 21:52, sophomore Tatyana Nasser was 53rd in 22:30, and freshman Katayini Kinthala was 71st in 24:44.
For Waverly, sophomore Miah Correll finished 50th in a time of 21:54, and sophomore Bella Minaker was 76th in 25:41.
ATHENS BOYS PLACE SECOND IN CLASS B
Vestal won the Class B title with 174 placement points, while Athens was second with 190, and Waverly was third with 220.
Junior Jacob Shores led Athens with a 13th-place finish in a time of 14:38, while junior Matt Rossettie was 21st in a time of 15:01, and senior Parker Wanck was 37th in a time of 15:48.
Senior Andrew DeForest was 85th for the Wildcats in a time of 18:27, and junior Kamden Knapp was 87th in 18:31.
Junior Chase Hine led Waverly with a 23rd-place finish in a time of 15:07, and sophomore Hayden Montanye was 26th in 15:21.
Freshman Colten Santalucia was 62nd for the Wolverines in 17:15, while junior Jayden Washington was 64th in 17:20, and sophomore Garrett Akins was 97th 19:51.
MODIFIED / JUNIOR HIGH
Boys 3K
Athens' Rowan Morales led the Valley contingent with an eighth-place finish in a time of 11:17, and Nico Rossettie was 14th in 11:50.
Waverly's Logan Huff finished 115th in 17:05, and Michael McNeal was 116th in 17:06.
Girls 3K
Athens' Evelyn Owen (13:36) and Sadie Wanck (13:39) finished 19th and 20th, respectively, to lead the Valley contingent in the girls junior high race.
Paisley Smith was 29th in 13:55, and Allie Lyon was 36th in 14:35.
Waverly's Pepper Mosier finished 72nd in a time of 17:26.
