THE VALLEY — The first District 4 Championships of the fall season are on tap this week, with six Athens golfers set to complete in the Class 3A Championships, while the regular seasons in other sports — on both sides of the border — wind to a close.
There are 31 events on the docket this week, including eight each on Tuesday and Thursday.
The following are all of the home varsity events this week, and a few of the notable road events:
MONDAY (2)
• Waverly hosts STAC Central Division girls soccer rival Chenango Forks.
TUESDAY (8)
• Waverly hosts Tioga County rival Owego in a girls swimming dual.
• The Waverly boys host Chenango Forks on the links at Shepard Hills.
WEDNESDAY (4)
• Athens host NTL girls soccer rival Williamson on the pitch at Alumni Stadium.
• Tioga hosts Dryden in IAC girls soccer crossover action at Haggerty Field.
THURSDAY (8)
• Athens has six golfers in action at Day 1 of the District 4 Golf Championships at White Deer Golf Course in Montgomery.
• Tioga volleyball hosts longtime IAC volleyball rival Thomas A. Edison.
• Athens hosts soccer-only NTL member Galeton on the boys pitch at Alumni Stadium.
• The Waverly boys host divisional soccer rival Chenango Valley.
FRIDAY (5)
• Waverly hosts divisional rival Maine-Endwell on the gridiron at Memorial Stadium for Homecoming.
• Tioga is on the road at Groton in divisional football action.
• Sayre football is on the road at longtime NTL rival Towanda.
SATURDAY (4)
• It's Day 2 of the District 4 Golf Championships at the Williamsport Country Club.
• Athens football hosts Wyalusing for its annual Homecoming game.
