IAC BOYS SOCCER: TIOGA DROPS 6-3 SHOOTOUT TO NEWFIELD (2025-10-09)

NEWFIELD — Newfield scored a goal to close the first half, and two early in the second half to break open a tie game on its way to a 6-3 win over Tioga here Thursday afternoon in IAC South Small School Division boys soccer action.

"We came out strong at the beginning and just let down,Tioga coach Donnie VanDusen. "We can't let that happen."

Brady Landmesser scored about 3 1/2 minutes into the game to give the Tigers an early 1-0 lead, but Newfield scored twice in a little less than four minutes to take a 2-1 lead with 22:17 remaining in the first half.

Tioga's Jace Schanbacher scored to tie the game at 2-2 with 7:24 left in the first half, but the Trojans answered 66 seconds later to take a 3-2 lead, which is where it stood at the half.

Newfield scored twice in a 69-second span early in the second half to extend its lead to 5-2 with 30:32 left in the contest.

Schanbacher scored again for the Tigers with 20:54 remaining to close the gap to 5-3, but Newfield answered six minutes later to make it 6-3.

Newfield had a 28-15 advantage in shots-on-goal, while Tioga had a 9-7 edge in corner kicks.

Junior David Van Dusen recorded 16 saves in net for the Tigers.

Tioga, now 1-11, returns to action Monday against SVEC at Candor High School.
