THE VALLEY — It's like old times at Athens with a Saturday afternoon game against Wyalusing as part of its Homecoming Weekend. The Wildcats will also have three golfers in action at the District 4 Championships at Williamsport Country Club.
FOOTBALL
Wyalusing (2-5) at Athens (6-1), 3:30 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 54-7 win at Towanda, while the Rams rolled over Canton, 42-7.
With a balanced offense that's producing more than 350 yards per game in total offense, Athens is outscoring its opponents by an average of 47.1 to 23.1 points per game, while Wyalusing has been outscored by an average of to 26.8 to 16 points per game.
Junior Connor Davidson has been the driving force in the Athens offense. He has completed 63.6 percent (75 of 118) for 1,319 yards and 20 TDs with six interceptions, and has run for 693 yards and six TDs.
Senior James Friend has been Davidson's most dangerous target with 20 receptions for 413 yards, and nine TDs.
Gage Marmor and Ryan Cook have also been major contributors in the passing game, and Karson sipley has been the go-to running back since Brendan Cooke's injury.
GOLF
District 4, Class AAA Championships, 10 a.m. @ Williamsport Country Club: Athens junior Eli Hicks shot a 74 on Day 1 at White Deer Golf Course, and leads Jersey Shore's Carter Girton by one stroke.
Selinsgrove's Mac Defazio shot an 81 and is in third place. The top two qualify for the PIAA Championships.
Sophomore Brooke Lyon is in sixth place in the Class AA girls championships after shooting a 116. The top four advance to States, but one of the two rounds must be a 100 or better.
